Liposuction removes the stubborn fat from the body using the suction process. During liposuction surgery, small, thin, and bluntshaped tubes known as ‘cannula’ are inserted through the fine incisions that are made on the skin. Ultrasound waves are used to liquefy the fat. The liquefied fat is then taken out through these tubes. With improved techniques available now, liposuction surgery is now much safer, easier, and less painful.

Various forms of Liposuction are as follows:-

• Tumescent liposuction: – It does not require general anesthesia. A local anesthetia numbs the area through which the tube will be inserted. After that an anesthetic solution is injected into the fatty tissue, before traditional vaser liposuction is done on the patient.

• Ultrasound-Assisted liposuction: – It uses ultrasound energies in liquefying the fat. This technique is helpful in removing fat from the upper abdominal area, and back of the abdominal area.

• Laser-Assisted liposuction: – energy waves of low intensity are used to liquefy the fat, which is then removed through the help of a thin ‘cannula’.

Of all types of liposuction surgeries, arm liposuction surgery is mostly availed by the patients. It is preferred mostly by women. Patients are first given light sedative in order to ease them. If the sedative does not work then the patient is given local anesthetic. The surgeon then makes a small incision near the armpit or elbow and inserts a long metal tube known as cannula. A suction device then begins to remove the fat from the subcutaneous layer of the skin.

The results of upper or lower arm liposuction may be permanent, until and unless one starts to gains weight again.
